Work on Lochgelly’s skate park is now complete

Lochgelly’s new skate park is now open and ready to welcome skaters to the facility.

Cllr Linda Erskine, Convener of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee explained: “This is another important milestone in delivering new or upgraded skate parks across the area. We already have new skate parks in Cardenden, Benarty and Kelty that are proving popular. Work is underway to build a new one in Cowdenbeath too.

“This park complements the multi-use games area well. We’re all pleased to see the latest addition to Lochgelly Public Park but the real reviews will come from the very active skating community that exists in the Cowdenbeath area. They have been instrumental in helping shape the strategy for improving local skate park facilities.

Convener of the Community and Housing Services Committee, Cllr Judy Hamilton, added: “We’re working hard to make a Fairer Fife. By improving skate park provision we are ensuring that many children and young people in the area have free, good quality, access to this popular activity. In the long term, it will be projects such as this that help to encourage inactive children to take part in more physical activity and reduce the health and wellbeing inequalities that we face.

Lochgelly’s new floodlit concrete skate park is around 400 square metres in size and is funded from the Council’s Cowdenbeath Area Capital Budget. The project also benefitted from input from the Lochgelly Public Park Improvement Group and Lochgelly Community Council.
