Fife Council is celebrating National Adoption Week by inviting anyone who is considering adopting to contact them about their interest.

Adopting a child can transform their whole world and be an incredibly fulfilling experience for people who choose to adopt.

Mark an Adopter with Fife Council said: My partner and I adopted our little boy almost two years ago and it’s the best thing we’ve ever done. As a same sex couple we were a little apprehensive about applying to adopt, we didn’t even know if we could, but after applying, our social worker assured us we had done the right thing. The process didn’t take as long as we expected and our social worker was there every step of the way.

Adoption was something we had considered for a long time before we finally plucked up the courage to contact Fife Council for more information. We were so well supported we really wish we had done it sooner.

We attend quarterly support groups and the annual fun day which gives us the opportunity to catch up with other adopters. The friends we’ve made there have been a great source of support to discuss the things that family and friends might not understand.

We have been a family for nearly two years and we are now in the process of adopting our second child with the support of the adoption team at Fife Council. We’ll always be grateful for the kindness and support they continue to give us.

I’d say to anyone who’s considered adoption but for whatever reason hasn’t made the call yet to pick up the phone and do it.”

Linda Fraser Team Manager said: “We have the privilege and pleasure to bring together adults who are adding to their family and children who need a family. I would urge anyone who is considering adopting to call us on 03451 55 55 55 ext.471071 and we will be delighted to chat things over and answer any questions you may have regarding adoption.”
