Growing in Lochgelly feel the need to respond to the cowardly persecution of one of our disabled volunteers by ‘Inside Right’ in your letters page (Central Fife Times – June 29).

The writer attacks the work of Growing in Lochgelly volunteers and their right to help improve the look of the town if they are disabled.

One of our disabled volunteers was recently reported to the DWP for volunteering with Growing in Lochgelly. The investigation held by the compliance officer found no wrong-doing. The DWP encourages all claimants to carry out voluntary work, whether they have a disability or not.

We are concerned that the individual who misreported our volunteer to the DWP is now using the columns of your paper to escalate his campaign of victimization by smearing all our volunteers.

Several members of the committee have been informed that ‘Inside Right’ is a Lochgelly community councillor who also frequently trolls CFT readers under the pseudonyms ‘Inside Left’ and ‘campaigner55’.

We cannot understand why your website and paper give a platform to those whose sole intention is to troll and abuse the Central Fife Times’ paying customers.

Residents who freely volunteer their time to improve the local area should not be subject to vicious attacks in the local paper from an anonymous malcontent bearing a private grudge.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Growing in Lochgelly as they are of the town’s numerous community groups.

We would like to reassure all our volunteers, current and potential, disabled and fully-abled, that we warmly welcome any time spent volunteering with us.

We would also like to thank the wider community for appreciating and supporting our volunteers in their efforts to improve the town.

Isn’t it about time that the Central Fife Times stops printing articles and letters using pseudonyms only, including, but not limited to, he (or she) who appears as ‘The Spectator’?
To the volunteer in question, keep up your good work, and try to ignore this disgraceful matter.
