Description
Part 5 of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act came into force in January 2017. This part of the Act introduces a right for community bodies to make requests to public authorities to take over the management or ownership of any land or buildings they feel they could make better use of.
To deal with such requests, the Council has put in place a process and multi-disciplinary team to oversee community asset transfer (CAT) requests. We are now organising a seminar to raise awareness of the CAT process and the opportunities available to local communities about what that means in practice.
Purpose of the seminar
- Raise awareness of the Community Empowerment Act and the CAT process with community bodies, elected members and staff;
- Enable staff to be more confident in supporting community bodies interested in taking over an asset ;
- Enable community bodies to find out more about the community assets available in their area.
