An awards night and fundraiser being held on the 25th November is being launched to raise the profile of the LGBT community in Fife.

The night will provide live music, entertainment, and comedy with a drinks reception and 3-course dinner.

The evening will also hold an awards ceremony ‘Fife Rainbow Awards’ which gives a chance to celebrate equality and diversity in the Kingdom by saying thanks to those champions from our communities.

Nominations have now opened in 8 categories, including Volunteer of the Year and Employer of the Year. Nominations close on Sunday 20th November at 11.59pm. Citizens are encouraged yto make nominations via the Pink Saltire website:

Founder of Pink Saltire, Stuart Duffy says

“We work to improve equality and diversity across Scotland and to reduce isolation and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in all our communities.

As Fifers ourselves, we knew that life for LGBT people here was different to those living in the cities. Many LGBT people still face stigma and discrimination where they live and a large number move away to pursue interests outside of Fife. Research by organisations such as The Equality Network and LGBT Health & Wellbeing has recently found that rural and semi-rural areas lose talented people as they often feel they are not accepted in their own community.

We are challenging this perception and we’re working hard to raise the visibility of LGBT people in Fife. We’ve recently commissioned an independent short film called “Queer Kingdom”. The film features individual stories from LGBT people living here in Fife and profiles some of the fantastic work going on by organisations here too.

We’d encourage you to think about how your community demonstrates its pride in its LGBT people and how we can all encourage more LGBT Fifers to continue to contribute to our towns and villages and to feel valued members of society. We hope you can support our charity and its aims to improve the lives of LGBT people living here in Fife.”
