The Scottish National Party’s Ms Annabelle Ewing, candidate for the Cowdenbeath constituency, has expressed her disappointment at the news that staff at CommScope (formerly Andrews Antenna) in Lochgelly have been given a month’s notice as the factory is set to close.
Ms Ewing said:
“This is very disappointing news indeed. We are witnessing the demise of a company which, in various guises, has been an important employer in Lochgelly since the 1970s.
“Fifty jobs really is a significant blow for the local community and I feel for those who are today facing an uncertain future.
“I have already contacted the Minister for Business highlighting the closure of Comscope and asking that a PACE (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment) team become involved to support the workforce in dealing with the practical and emotional sides of redundancy and to help them secure alternative employment.”
CommScope informed employees on the April 5th at its Lochgelly, Scotland facility of the start of a consultation process regarding the potential discontinuation of manufacturing operations at the site. A decision about the changes being considered will not be made until the consultation process has been completed, which will take a minimum of 30 days.
