Shell U.K. Limited would like to apologise to our local communities for any inconvenience or concern they may have caused today (10/01/14) as a result of today’s flaring from the Fife Natural Gas Liquids Plant at Mossmorran. At no time has there been any danger to the local communities or the personnel working at the plant.

We can confirm that a process upset automatically initiated our safety systems and this has unfortunately resulted in a mimimal amount of elevated flaring. The elevated flaring will be intermittent whilst the process stabilises to normal operation.

We would also like to take this opportunity to inform our local communities that Shell will be intermittently flaring during the period from the 16th – 18th January, as part of our safe maintenance programme. This will be kept to the minimum amount that is operationally possible, and does not pose any increased risk to the local community.

Local communities may notice a minimal amount of flaring, as we start up the one of our three modules after a four month routine planned maintenance and integrity turnaround. All the relevant authorities have been informed. We expect to resume normal operations by 19th January, or earlier.

We would also like to apologise for any inconvenience or concerns in advance that this may cause.

If you require any further information please contact Shell on Tel: 01224 884130
