The Fife Ethylene Plant, at the Mossmorran petrochemical complex, started elevated flaring, sometime around 4:30pm (05/12/12), after a minor gas leak was discovered on site.
The gas leak required the plant to start the shut down procedure, causing elevated flaring, as staff provide an on-going repair on the leak.
The emergency services were called out to the site as a precautionary measure, but were in the process of being stood down, by around 5:30pm.
The plant is now being shut down to allow staff to carry out repairs. This will result in elevated flaring during the shut down procedure. An update regarding the expected duration of the flaring is expected tomorrow.
