It has been alleged that a 23 year old (James Paterson) has attempted the murder and rape of pregnant women in the Lochgelly area, as well as at addresses in Fife and Edinburgh. The assaults allegedly took place between 1 January 2006 and December 2010, and all the women were pregnant.

The first alleged victim claimed he tried to set her on fire with a deodorant can, stabbed her in the hand with a pen knife and turned her into a “nervous wreck”. He is said to have attacked three women, and attempted to murder them, and has also been accused of attacking two babies.

James Paterson has lodged a defensive plea, claiming that he was defending himself from the women.
