Primarily aimed at those that have never played a musical instrument before, or for a very long time, the series of workshops aim to teach you the basics and get you involved in a band. Below is a video of the Brass workshop after only 2 weeks, with first-time brass players from Lochgelly and surrounding communities giving a spirited rendition of ‘Oh When The Saints…’ helped along by Marcus Britton, Rory Clark and Pete Petrie. ‘Oh When the Saints…’ – Lochgelly Brass Section from Oi_Musica on Vimeo. Marcus, who leads the Brass workshops, says The project is about giving Lochgelly residents a first-in-a-lifetime experience of music – be it playing brass, samba drumming, singing in a choir or having a go at guitars, keyboards or drum kit. The workshops are available, every Tuesday night at the Lochgelly Centre. Most of the workshops are full, but there is still space left in the singing, brass and drum groups. Applications are open until the end of March, and sessions are completely free. You can learn more about the project, on the official website: http://onfife.com/creation/band. There will be more videos released, charting the progression of the workshops and the ability of the musicians. From this initial video, we can see that the players have progressed very well for only 2 weeks of playing, and we look forward to seeing and hearing their playing become tighter. In such a short time, the players have achieved a lot of ability, and we look forward to hearing how they progress.
