LOCHGELLY clearly has a special place in the hearts of many judging by the results of the recent ‘I Love Lochgelly’ bag design campaign.

Residents, business owners and others with an interest in the town were invited to vote for their favourite bag design out of four carrying the ‘I Love Lochgelly’ catchphrase. The voting closed on Tuesday 9 August, votes were counted the next day and a clear winner emerged. Design 3 won with over 46% of the votes, with Designs 1 and 4 each taking 20% of the votes and Design 2 the remaining 14%.

The winning design has now been put into production and we hope to receive the bags in time to give them out free of charge at the gala next Sunday. More bags will be given out for free at events in the town throughout the year.

Hazel Cross, Economic Adviser with Fife Council’s Regeneration, Environment & Place team, commented: “I would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and for all the positive comments received about the campaign. The campaign has sparked the interest of former Lochgelly residents now living in other parts of the UK and abroad and it would be great if friends or relatives in the area could send the bags to them so the ‘I Love Lochgelly’ statement becomes well known outwith the Kingdom!”

The bag campaign is part of a wider whole town marketing campaign and contributes to the revitalisation of the town centre which was a recommendation of the Lochgelly Charrette.
