We have been notified by the local non-profit Recycling Facility; Recycle Fife, that they will be supporting this years Earth Hour initiative.

At first we weren’t sure what Earth Hour was but after a quick look at their site and the official Earth Hour site, we feel it is a worthy cause to promote and support.

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is an initiative which started in Austria in 2007 which has grown into a global movement with over 125 countries participating, whereby individuals, groups, and organisations agree to switch out all lights in a self imposed black out for 1 hour. Authoritative groups have also participated throughout the world by switching of their lights for landmark buildings, such as the Golden Gate bridge in San Fransisco.

This year, Earth Hour is happening on the 26th March between 8:30pm until 9:30pm (local time). The initiative works in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund.

The project has received criticism over the fact that once the lights have been switched back on, what has it achieved? Therefore to try and make a more positive and longer lasting contribution, they have created a new project; Beyond the Hour. The video below gives further details for the Beyond the Hour project.

Both projects seem a worthwhile initiative to support, and we would like to thank Recycle Fife for bringing this project to our attention. To show our support we will be following in the steps of Recycle Fife, and switching off our website on the 26th March between 8:30pm until 9:30pm. All that will be available is a message of support for the Earth Hour project.
