With the end of 2010, we would like to take a moment to reflect on the development of the Lochgelly site over the past year and look towards the future development, as well as give thanks to the many supporters and contributors that have helped shape the website.

Site Statistics

The site was launched on the 1st of January in 2010 to provide a platform for the local community to raise local issues of concern. The first issue raised was the Supermarket at Weathermac, which was not given the go ahead, to the dissapointment of the local community and surrounding areas that would have benefitted from the petrol station, job creation, and a large shopping convienence.

In January we had only 263 unique visitors, this figure steadily climbed, and in December we had the highest unique visitors for our site at 2255 visits.

In total for the year 2010, we had 15,349 unique visits, visiting the site 35,407 times, and generating a total of 457,258 page views.

The site has been visited by people from most countries around the world, but most of the page views were generated from the following countries (listed by most page views)

  1. Great Britain
  2. USA
  3. Canada
  4. Germany
  5. Russian Federation
  6. France
  7. South Korea

Local Support and Funding

Since our launch, we have received great local support from individuals, organisations, and were lucky to receive a Better Net Award from Scotland Unltd and Nominet Trust.

Funding was awarded so we can provide training to anyone that wishes to participate and take joint ownership of the website, create an online photography database, and produce a local magazine.

We have provided training to our volunteers and local non profit; the Lochgelly Community Development Forum.

Our photographic database (all released under a creative commons licence, free to use for personal and non profit usage) contains 941 images, with more to be added over 2011.

The magazine we will be producing will be published sometime in 2011, and will be an A4 gloss magazine of 12 pages that will be available in participating outlets. The magazine will be a free magazine for the local community. More details will be published shortly.

We would like to thank our volunteers that have worked hard to maintain the site and social network pages, contribute articles and moderate our forum.

We would also like to thank the following contributors for choosing to publish articles on this site;

  • Lochgelly Community Development Forum
  • Lochgelly Tae Kwon Do
  • Councillor Mark Hood
  • Recycle Fife
  • Motivate To Innovate
  • Robert MacMillan (Lochgelly High School)

Lastly, we would like to thank all our visitors that continue to return to the site and provide valuable feedback, and giving us your support.

As always we are still looking for more people to get involved and contribute articles, whether as an individual or representing a local non profit. This website is built for the community, and by registering an account you can start creating your own articles and share with our site visitors your opinions, interests or issues about Lochgelly.

Finally, we would like to wish everyone a happy new year and hope everyone has a prosperous 2011.
