On Wednesday the 9th of June, one member from the local community will be awarded the Young Citizen of the Year for 2010 by the Lochgelly Community Council.

The award is given to individuals that have made a valuable contribution to the local community, whether that is recognition for the voluntary work they have done locally, a special achievement they have made, or something else that is positive for the Lochgelly area. This award aims to recognise that contribution.

Nominations are made in writing to the Lochgelly Community Council, who then make a joint decision on who should receive the award. The award winner is then invited along to a special Community Council meeting with their family to meet the local councillors, receive their award and stay for a special buffet meal.

The Award ceremony will be held at 6pm on the 9th of June at the Phoenix club (across from the Miners Institute) and lasts 1 hour. We do not think this is a public meeting, as it is a special event to recognise the individual for their achievement, and allow their family to participate and celebrate in the event.

We do know who the winner is for this year but we are keeping it a secret until after the ceremony, so we will publish an update in the next 2 days. We would like to congratulate this years winner and believe they are very deserving of the award.

Make a nomination

The Lochgelly Community Council has 2 award schemes; Young Citizen of the Year and Citizen of the Year. To nominate anyone for any of these awards you must send a letter to the secretary of the Community Council:

  • Christine McGrath
    20 Lumphinnans Road
    Lochgelly
    KY5 9AR

Even though the award has already been won for 1 local citizen, you can still make your nominations for next year. Tell the Community Council about the individual you are nominating, why they deserve to win, and clearly mark what category you are nominating them for.

Public Meeting

After the award ceremony the Lochgelly Community Council will be open to members of the public from 7pm, Wednesday the 9th of June at the Phoenix club. This is your opportunity to learn more about the development of Lochgelly, issues the Community Council are currently looking into, and also raise any issues of concern to you, for the community council to look at on your behalf.

All members from the local community are more than welcome to attend, and here at, Lochgelly – Loch of Shining Waters, we feel this is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Lochgelly and the issues Lochgelly and the local community have to face.
