This is a quick article on how to resolve an Error 721: Remote PPP peer or computer is not responding if you are on Tiscali Broadband (now Talk Talk) connection using a Sagem F@st 800-840 modem running Microsoft Windows XP.

The first thing to do is follow all their online tutorials located at:

If none of the articles helped an you are still recieving the error 721 code, then try the following to resolve your issue:

  1. On the bottom right hand menu (TaskBar) where the clock is located you should see a green triangle. Click for sample screenshot
  2. Double click on the green triangle and a pop-up window will appear. Check to see that DSL Status: OPERATIONAL. Click for sample screenshot
  3. Press the Alt + D key at the same time, this will pop-up a new window, titled Administrative. There will be four tabs, click the second Tab which is titled CONFIG. Click for sample screenshot
  4. There will be 4 boxes and these should be set to:
    • ATM Channel: VPI set to the number 0, VCI set to 38
    • Encapsulation Type: PPPoA VCMUX
    • ADSL Standard: Make sure Multi-Standard is selected.
    • USB: Make sure BULK is selected.
  5. Once you have changed these settings, click on apply, you may be asked to restart your PC, select YES. If you haven’t been asked to restart your PC, close down all open windows and manually restart your PC.
  6. Once your PC has restarted, try to connect to the internet, your problem should now be resolved.

If you are still having issues and following the Tiscali/Talk Talk tutorials and this tutorial hasn’t resolved your issue then you will be best contacting the Tiscali/Talk Talk support line on 0871 222 3311. This line is semi automated so once you get to the first selection, choose 1, and then at the next selection press 2 and you should get through to a support advisor.

I seem unable to access tiscali broadband very easily,it takes sometimes up to 11 minutes to log on to my email account.
At the moment it is impossible,I should be
getting 1.5mb of speed. What is the problem?
It has been a problem since TalkTalk updated
    the website

Tiscali/Talk Talk are notorious for providing a bad service. I was with them for 2 years and finally went with another provider, due to the high number of times I was having trouble connecting to the Internet (my latest provider I have had no connection issues or speed issues as yet)

The only thing I can recommend is contacting support and be prepared for repeating the same task over and over again, try not to be fobbed of and keep at them.

I realise their support is quite bad, so if you want to leave it as a last resort, you can try following the guide at:

I am sorry I can’t be of more help.
