We have just contacted the members of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee online via the Fife Council website with the letter below, any replies we receive will be published here. If you wish to contact the members you can get their contact details here: http://lochgelly.org.uk/?page_id=726

Dear

I am writing to you to inform you that lochgelly.org.uk has been conducting online surveys and gathering feedback on the proposed planning application 09/01361/WOPP. It has came to our attention that voting on this planned application will likely take place at the next Cowdenbeath Area Committee Meeting to be held on the 3rd of March, and if given the go ahead, Lochgelly will lose the opportunity of 180 jobs and access to a local petrol station to be located at the Weathermac site, which would benefit the wider communities of Lochgelly, Ballingry, Lochore, Crosshill, Cardenden and Bowhill.

We understand that you will be one person out of 9 people that will have a vote that will directly affect over 15,000 people, and therefore we feel it is important that you are made aware that the local community is strongly against the planned store to be located at Hall Street (application 09/01361/WOPP) and in favour of a planned Supermarket and Petrol Station to be located at the former Weathermac site.

The advantages of the planned supermarket and petrol station is obvious to the community and is much needed. Not only will it save people time and money, having a local supermarket with a petrol station, will also reduce the environmental impact from car drivers, who are currently having to travel much further distances at a higher cost to refuel their vehicles and gather their weekly shopping.

At lochgelly.org.uk we have been gathering feedback and a list of all the official objections received on the Fife Council website and objections received on lochgelly.org.uk can be viewed here: http://lochgelly.org.uk/?p=1115

We have also been asking our site visitors “Would you like a supermarket to be built on the former Weathermac site (Auchterderran Road)?” and so far (21st February) there has been a total of 84 votes. 81 votes in favour of the supermarket at the weathermac site, 2 votes unsure, and 1 vote against the proposed supermarket at Weathermac.

Since launching the website in January and campaigning against the planned small store at Hall Street (application 09/01361/WOPP), lochgelly.org.uk has received 582 unique visitors, we have also utilised Twitter and Facebook to promote the campaign, which has now 117 fans on Facebook and 75 followers on Twitter.

We hope you will take notice of all the information and the feelings of the community into consideration when you will be asked to make your vote which could affect over 15,000 people in our local communities.

Please be aware that we have published this open letter online (http://lochgelly.org.uk/?p=1267) and if you wish to reply, you can do so by e-mail: info@lochgelly.org.uk or by leaving us a comment at: http://lochgelly.org.uk/?p=1267.

Any replies received will be published online.

Yours Sincerely

T. Mclean

Thanks for the letter. As a member of the Cowdenbeath Area Committee I am not permitted give my view on a planning application before it is considered by the area committee. All I can say is that I appreciated the work that you have done on this issue and thank you for providing me with this information. I’m happy to comment further after the decision has been taken.

I’ve been forwarded the following reply for Ian Chisholm:

    Good morning Mr McLean,

Your views on the proposals for a supermarket as welcomed. I am not of
course, able to support or object to any planning application before we
meet in committee to discuss the application otherwise I might be
debarred from voting. You can be assured that all the elected members on
the Area planning committee will take serious account of the relevant
issues and make a decision on material planning grounds.
The meeting is open to the public and I look forward to meeting you
    there.

    Best wishes,
    Cllr Ian Chisholm (SNP Lochgelly&Cardenden)

I’ve been forwarded the following reply for Ann Bain:

    Hi

Thanks for the email, due to planning guidelines I am unable to comment
on applications as this would stop me from voting at the area
    committee.

    Kind regards

    Ann
