Community Council knew possible health risks of Little Raith

We recently requested the Lochgelly Community Council minutes dating back from 2007 from Fife Council, through a Freedom of Information request. Unfortunately the earlier minutes are very brief with lengthy discussions summed up in a very short space, so it is hard to determine the activities of the Community Council and discussions/debates taking place at that time. However in 2009, the Community Council hired a minute secretary, and at this point, the minutes contain more useful information More >

LSPTG Report (Part I)

Recently, Fife Council undertook a public consultation for the Lochgelly Supplementary Guidance and Transport Guidance (LSPTG) which we had critised due to the length of the document and complexity (View our articles). We also spoke with several MSPs and we need to thank MSP Willie Rennie who replied the quickest and was the most helpful. Recently we received a notification from a Twitter friend (@Technotoaster) that Fife Council had released the final report for the LSPTG and we would like to More >

Recycle Staff Defiant Despite Raids

Two raids in January saw fuel stolen from a Lochgelly company along with electric cabling. Staff at Recycle Fife saw them lose the best part of a day’s work collecting and recycling the host of items, which has made the social enterprise a highly successful operation. Company Director at the Cartmore Industrial Estate operation, Jackie Dunsmuir, told the times that the raids had cost the company over £1000 but that no one at the successful social enterprise was throwing in the towel. “Earlier More >

Gelly Loch (video)

This video is an image showcase of the Gelly Loch and surrounding scenery, and how the countryside is being used for an Industrial Power Plant, hosting 9×2.7Mw industrial turbines (423ft), next to four communities (Auchtertool, Lochgelly, Lumphinnans & Cowdenbeath) and a chemical processing plant (Mossmorran), and what this will mean for the project to rejuvenate the Gelly Loch. Stop ACTA

The biggest tech news in America recently was the possible passing of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) which has currently been put on hold due to large scale online protests from groups, individuals and other corporations concerned that the act, which on the surface, is aimed at stopping File Sharing and Piracy, but concerns were raised that it can also be abused to restrict individuals rights for freedom of expression on the internet. However, there is another treaty currently being progressed More >

Questions concerning Little Raith Wind Farm

We had a meeting with the developer of Little Raith Wind Farm (Kennedy Renewables) and their PR/Political Lobbying group (Invicta PA) back in October. Unfortunately, most of our questions couldn’t be answered at the time, but the developer took note of the issues and concerns raised, and notified us they will get back to us regarding our queries, and could we also include our concerns in writing. We contacted the developers and the four Community Councils on the 27th January 2012 with our More >

Local group under threat of closure

With the ongoing ‘austerity’ measures enforced on local authorities we have seen reduction in public services and quality of service as the local authorities try to juggle services to fit into tight budget limitations. The austerity measures have also had an impact on many local charity groups as funding monies have been reduced and more groups have been competing to access reduced funding packages. We have already witnessed the closure of TIBAL, the Royal Oak Community Club have expressed More >

Web of Trust Helps You Surf the Web Safer

This article is republished from the magazine and was written by Deborah Salmi from the Web of Trust based in Finland. During a discussion with my 80 year old Aunt Pansy about her genealogy research online, she asked “How can I tell if a website is safe?” My 70 year old mother answered immediately, “That’s easy. You need WOT.” She waved her hand towards me and said, “Tell her about Web of Trust, Deborah,” and proceeded to explain how easy it is to download WOT and how it shows you if a site is More >

Mossmorran WInd Turbines Approved

Thanks to one of our site commentators, we have learned that another set of turbines have been approved that will affect the Cowdenbeath area and will possibly have a cumulative impact on the Lochgelly area. The comment that alerted us was; Two 100 metre wind turbines have just been approved as a delegated decision – ie it never went to Committee – beside the Mossmorran Works. Website Design

Step 5 – Adding Functionality

If you have been following my tutorials on creating a website you should now have a functioning bare bones site. It is now time to add some functionality to your site and take some precautionary steps to secure your site. What is your site about? Depending on what your site depends on the functionality that you require. For instance if you have a site about a hobby you may add a forum, yet a forum would probably be misplaced on a small business site, and so on. So you really need to identify More >
