Website Background
Lochgelly.org.uk is a loose group of volunteers from the locality who are willingly giving up their time and skills to develop an online, non-profit, non-commercial, resource site which gathers and centralises historical and present information about Lochgelly in the one location, online. Information is wide ranging and covers local issues, groups, community events, historical data, media, as well as providing an open policy of debate and allowing the Lochgelly community to contribute article, stories, or raise issues within the locality.

Aims & Objectives
This site has grown rapidly, in size and popularity, and, in a short space of time. Initially the site was developed to raise awareness of all the developments happening locally to give everyone an opportunity to have their say on local issues, centralise information about Lochgelly, both past and present, and promote the local area online. Since the site has rapidly evolved due to user demand, we have made the decision to formalise the Social Aims & Objectives in the hope that this site, with local user contributions, will be a useful online tool/resource site to promote better communications between individuals, the local authority, and other non profit groups.
Currently we are a non constituted informal voluntary group and all the work we do is not for profit. We may in future decide to formalise the group and become constituted, however, any big decision like this, will be put forward to all site users and contributors to give everyone the opportunity to provide their feedback or support, and a chance to vote on any big decisions with the site. Your vote for the site will be final on any big decisions regardless of the outcome, as this site is for you.

Other than the domain name and web space costs (which have been kindly donated to us), this site currently has no other associated running costs in any part of its development. This is due to the fact that a decision was made to utilise Open Source technologies which gives us the freedom to develop a high-end site with no costs. With Open Source technologies, anyone can develop their own high-end website, without the need for any technical knowledge of website coding and programming. All that is needed is time to learn how the product works, a domain name (roughly £10 every 2 years depending on the domain suffix), and a web host (prices vary but a decent web host will cost around £60 per year), and some time to learn the technology to develop your website.
This site wouldn’t have been possible without Open Source technologies and therefore we have listed all the software and plugins we use for this site, with links back to the original authors, as they have voluntary developed a range of useful scripts that have helped further enhance and develop the internet we know today, as well as indirectly supporting this site through their creations. We cannot thank these developers enough for their contributions. Please view the Site Credits on our links page
We would also like to thank all the groups, local authority, individuals, and local emergency services that live or operate in Lochgelly for publicly posting information online about Lochgelly and its current Development and History. Visiting our Links Page will give you access to further information about Lochgelly, gathered together by individuals and local groups.
